The Greene County baseball team had a losing week in competition, falling to Prairie City-Monroe, Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, Bondurant-Farrar, Perry, and Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The Rams are 3-12 on the season as of June 18.
PCM 3 ~ GC 2
Prairie City-Monroe defeated Greene County in conference action by one run. The Mustangs were 3-2 winners on Monday night, June 13, in Prairie City.
PCM scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings for a 2-0 lead, but the Rams tied the game with two runs in the top of the seventh. Calvin Skalla reached first on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Chase Stoline doubled Skalla home for the first Ram run.
GC tied the score on a Tom Gannon two-out single. The Mustangs won the game in the bottom of the inning with the help of two Greene County errors, the only errors of the game. Two PCM singles led off the inning, and two errors ended it.
Freshman Austin Delp pitched 6-1/3 innings and took the loss. He allowed two earned runs and one unearned on six hits and a walk. Delp had six strikeouts.
Gannon finished the game with two singles while Tyler Beger, Reid Lamoureux, and Skalla each had one. Stoline’s double was the only extra base hit for the Rams.
B-F 14 ~ GC 3
An eight-run top of the first inning was all Bondurant-Farrar needed to win 14-3 by the 10-run rule in non-conference baseball action in Jefferson over Greene County on Thursday night, June 16. The Blue Jays scored another run in the second, two in the third and three in the fifth. Greene County had single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth.
Dylan Fouch took the pitching loss. He threw two innings before being relieved by Branden Miller. Together they allowed 14 runs on 10 hits, walked six and struck out four.
Lamoureux rapped a base hit. Miller had two base hits. Delp added an RBI single. Stoline doubled for the only extra base hit for the Rams. Miller and Beger each had one RBI. The Rams committed four errors.
CMB 13 ~ GC 9
Greene County lost 13-9 to CMB in Collins Friday night, June 17. Coach Mark Sawhill’s Rams fell to 1-8 in the conference and 3-10 overall. The Rams led 5-1 at the 3-1/2 innings mark. The Raiders scored 12 unanswered runs with six in the fourth and another six in the sixth inning.
Greene County scored twice in the first and third and led 4-0 after 2-1/2 innings. CMB put a run on the board in the third before the Rams countered with a single tally in the fourth to regain a four run lead. Things unraveled for the Rams in the bottom of the fourth, allowing CMB to lead 7-5. Greene County trailed 13-5 after six innings, then scored four times in the top of the seventh.
Beger was the starting pitcher. Lamoureux came in with a 5-1 lead in the fourth with two runners on and no one out. He took the pitching loss. Together they gave up 13 runs on nine hits, walked two and struck out three.
The Rams had eight hits, all singles. Stoline drove in two runs with a base hit, while Beger, Lamoureux, and Miller each had a single and one RBI. Delp had a pair of singles with one each for Logan Lansman and Gannon. Skalla added one RBI.
PERRY TOURNAMENT
Greene County lost twice on Saturday at the Perry baseball tournament. The Rams fell in six innings to Perry 13-3. In the consolation game, Sergeant Bluff-Luton was a 9-4 winner over the Rams.
Perry 13 ~ GC 3
Perry scored three runs in the first, third and sixth innings. They also tallied two runs in the fourth and one apiece in the second and fifth innings for a 13-run lead over Greene County, defeating the Rams 13-3 in six innings.
The Rams had just two hits, both singles by Lamoureux and Mac Adamson. Stoline recorded a bases loaded walk for a run batted in and Skalla had a sacrifice fly for an RBI.
Wade Adcock took the pitching loss, allowing 13 runs on 10 hits with seven walks and two strike outs.
SB-L 9 ~ GC 4
Greene County fell 9-4 to Sergeant Bluff-Luton in the second game of the Perry tournament. The Rams had only three hits with singles by Gannon, Delp and Logan Kohl. The latter knocked in two runs with a single in the seventh inning. Lansman added an RBI.
Sophomore Ben Bravard made his pitching debut on the varsity squad and took the loss. He threw the first four innings, giving up seven runs on nine walks and two hits. Skalla pitched two-thirds of an inning and Stoline threw 1-1/3 innings. Skalla allowed two runs on two hits, two walks and a strikeout.
